Meet Robert Mehall

Born with a natural curiosity and a gift for problem solving, Robert Mehall is one of Jacobs’ architects, focusing on cities, places and our overall design practice.
With a keen eye for detail and a passion for blending functionality with aesthetics, Robert has made significant contributions to the world of architecture.
Whether he conceives the initial design or collaborates one-on-one with our clients, Robert leverages communication and collaboration to bring the greatest potential of a project to fruition. With a proven track record of success and a passion for pushing the boundaries of what is possible, Robert continues to make a lasting impact on the world of architecture, data center design, and other markets where technically complex buildings are delivered though design excellence.
Robert holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a licensed member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), LEED AP Building Design + Construction (BD+C) accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council, and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certified.
Outside of work, Robert has an extensive music collection, specifically punk rock and industrial. He also enjoys traveling with his wife and two children. They often take family trips to the beach and, in 2023, they went to Hawaii! They loved it so much; they plan to go back again.
For Christmas in 2023, Robert and his family traveled to Malaysia to visit his wife’s family. Quite the jet-setting, world-traveling family, they’ve also visited Bali, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and the U.K.
“One of the best things about traveling is the food,” Robert says about traveling. “You may be able to get something similar in the United States, but it just doesn’t taste the same. Traveling to different countries also allows me to see so many different types of architecture, from traditional cultural architecture to modern. It just opens your view to new opportunities, perspectives and styles.”

What sparked your interest in a career in design and architecture?
I came to Jacobs for additional opportunities with a firm that provides an integrated approach to projects. The multitude of project types, along with the diverse group of architects and engineers provides a larger breadth of knowledge to explore and new ideas to implement into projects. This helps position Jacobs at the forefront of delivering impactful solutions to clients, while ensuring we meets our strategic growth objectives in our Cities & Places business.
What are some of our leadership qualities?
I hold myself to a high standard and always want to improve what we do, not only for myself but for the entire team. I lead by example and treat everyone as an equal - including our clients.
What's your favorite part of your role?
Engaging with clients at project inception. This is where we establish project goals and begin the initial exploration of architecture. The success of the project is directly affected by the outcome of these initial meetings. They allow us to establish a relationship with the client and project team as we guide them through the design process.
What are you most proud of looking back on your career so far?
I worked on a complex healthcare institution that had multiple drivers in planning and design, which required a holistic approach. I was fortunate enough to work on the master planning, programming, exterior and interior design and had great mentors along with a stellar project team. At the completion of the project, a local article was published recognizing our great work efforts. This was a testament to the thoughtful approach the entire team leveraged for the design.
Can you share a piece of advice for young professionals?
Find a range of mentors with different talents and expertise. Early in your career the best thing to do is ask questions and learn as much as you can. Having a solid group of mentors that you can lean on to help answer questions and navigate your career is extremely vital…especially with more people working remote than ever before.
